British presenter and podcaster Piers Morgan has launched a new attack on former CNN colleague Anderson Cooper, amid long-standing tensions between journalists.
Morgan made these comments on a recent episode of Megyn Kelly’s podcast, criticizing CNN and Cooper’s new “podcast set” experiments.
Morgan, who like Kelly transitioned from television news hosting to podcasting, suggested the network will fail due to a lack of connection with its audience.
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. They’re trying to look like us,” he said of CNN’s aesthetic.
Morgan also called the network’s new content “cringeworthy” and “desperate,” and called its behavior “completely cringeworthy.”
“Anderson Cooper never gives an opinion worth listening to anyway, but that’s why people turn to us. No one checks us, we say what we believe at the time – stark, honest, an opinion,” Morgan joked.
He continued, “When we had our little tears over Bad Bunny, 42 million people watched one of those clips of me and you doing it. Anderson Cooper could roll up his sleeves and take off all his clothes, but he’s not going to get those kind of numbers!”
The rivalry between the two hosts mainly centers on Morgan claiming that Cooper’s ratings caused his CNN show, Piers Morgan Live, to be canceled in 2014.
