The Montreal Canadiens extended their winning run to six games with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the latest Canadiens vs Lightning clash.
Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovksy each recorded a goal and an assist, helping Montreal improve to 43-21-10 and continue their push.
Slafkovsky opened the scoring late in the first period with a power-play goal before Tampa Bay responded shortly after through Jake Guentzel to tie the game at 1-1.
Montreal regained the lead in the second period when Cole Caufield finished a passing move to make it 2-1.
The Canadiens then sealed the result in the final minutes, with Mike Matheson and Nick Suzuki both scoring with empty nets.
Goaltender Jakub Dobes made 36 saves for Montreal, while Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 shots.
The result moves Montreal within two points of the Lightning into second place in the division, while remaining four points behind the leaders.
For Tampa Bay, the loss ended an eight-game losing streak, dropping them further in the race for first place.
