The 2026 Cannes Film Festival lineup has been announced, with several returning authors and new voices set to compete this year.
One of the most important titles in the competition is Asghar Farhadi, who returns with Parallel storieshis first feature since winning the Grand Prix A hero in 2021.
American director Ira Sachs also makes his debut The man I lovean 80s film exploring the AIDS crisis in New York.
Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar is another major contender Bitter Christmasas part of a strong Spanish presence at the festival. Several of his permanent employees are also involved in other projects this year.
In addition to the competition, Jane Schoenbrun brings one of the most anticipated titles: Teen sex and death in Miasma campUnpleasant A certain respect after the breakthrough success of her previous film.
Festival director Thierry Frémaux recorded a record number of films directed by women in Competition, five of which were selected this year. He also celebrated a sharp increase in the number of entries, with more than 2,500 films eligible – significantly more than a decade ago.
The event opens with The electric kiss by Pierre Salvadori, while John Travolta will present his directorial debut Propeller one-way traffic in the Cannes Premiere section.
The festival runs from May 12 to 23.
