Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Walker Scobell faces a rather terrifying battle that has caused him to miss much of his teenage life.
The actor, who plays the titular demigod in the Disney+ series, will not be going to the prom, he said in a post on Instagram Stories on Sunday, amid serious threats against teenage girls he knows.
“Just to let everyone know, I’m not going to the prom,” Scobell wrote in the post to his 2.2 million followers.
“Please stop sending death threats to ANY teenage girl who can even remotely be associated with me based on their proximity to where I live. It’s not fair to them or their families. Maybe you should also just stop sending death threats in general. That’s just not cool. Kind of weird that I have to say this,” he further said.
Moreover, this is not the first time that the Percy Jackson star has had to deal with his fans crossing the line.
Aryan Simhadri, who plays Grover Underwood, recently shared a disturbing encounter with Entertainment weekly during a game of “Lie vs. Lie” with Scobell.
According to Simhadri, he was in public when a group of “forty drunk girls” recognized him and one in particular became too handsy with the actor.
“I felt quite uncomfortable, so I put my hands in my back pockets,” Simhadri recalls.
“And then she stuck her hand in my back pocket, with my hand already in there. There’s not enough room in the back pocket of a pair of jeans for more than one hand. She hung there a little longer than I would have liked. Not that I would have liked it at all,” he further revealed.
It is also pertinent to mention that season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympiansbased on the original book series by author Rick Riordan, returns to Disney+ later this year.
The series was such a hit that season 3 was greenlit months before season 2 even premiered.
“From the moment Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted, it was clear that this series had struck a chord with fans of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, in a statement explaining what led to the greenlight of Season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
