AFC Bournemouth have suspended defender Alex Jimenez from their squad ahead of Saturday’s match against Fulham as the club launches an investigation into viral social media posts.
The club issued a statement: “AFC Bournemouth is aware of reports circulating on social media involving right-back Alex Jimenez.”
“The club understands the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated. As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League match against Fulham and the club will have no further comment at this time.”
The controversy stems from the exchange of messages between Jimenez and a 15-year-old teenager. The screenshots were posted on social media on Friday. One text featured a selfie of Jimenez along with a suggestive caption.
However, no evidence has emerged yet that Jimenez met this girl.
Following the decision, the 21-year-old Spaniard will not feature in the upcoming Premier League match against Fulham.
Jimenez joined Bournemouth permanently after leaving AC Milan during the January transfer window. He played 32 games for Bournemouth in all competitions. He also scored a spectacular goal during a nail-biting 3-2 win against Liverpool.
