Matt Damon just revealed that he’s convinced Charlize Theron has “won the genetic lottery” because she has barely aged in recent decades.
The pair first worked together 26 years ago when they starred in the 2000 film The legend of Bagger Vance and they’ve now reunited for Sir Christopher Nolan’s new epic The Odyssey.
In an interview with ELLE magazine, he joked, “I don’t know why only one of us is getting older. She won the genetic lottery.”
He continued about Charlize, “She’s someone I’ve always rooted for because when you know her, it’s impossible not to root for her. She’s just a formidable woman and a great, great actress.”
Matt also expressed his admiration for the Fast and furious star after they were filming The Odyssey in difficult conditions on a windswept beach in Morocco, revealing that the “seriously badass” actress continued to work even though she was in “huge discomfort.”
“She had to shoot scenes that were already challenging with 30 to 60 mile per hour winds tearing sand into her eyes,” he recalls.
Matt went on to say, “She’s just a boss. The holds were trying to stop screens, anything we could do so we could film. But even with all that stuff, she was extremely uncomfortable, and you wouldn’t know that if you saw the movie.”
“I’ve known her for so long, and she’s one of those people who will never complain. And when she finally had to say, ‘I’m literally sorry, I can’t keep my eyes open,’ she was angry,” he added.
“I think that was probably harder on her than anything. And I thought, ‘Charlize, no one can keep their eyes open, this is ridiculous. Why didn’t you say something sooner?’ That’s her. She’s really badass,” Matt Damon said while heaping praise on Charlize Theron.
