Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal bid an emotional farewell to fans as his side defeated Athletic Club 4-2 in their final home game in La Liga after 451 appearances, including six wins in the Champions League.
The 34-year-old is officially out of contract this summer and has performed incredibly during his time. He personally thanked former teammates such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Carlo Ancelotti.
On his Instagram account he explained his emotions on leaving Real Madrid: “Madridistas, one of the most difficult moments of my life has arrived. This weekend I will wear our shirt for the last time. I still remember that day in 2002, when I received the best gift a child could imagine: the centenary package for my first communion and the news that I would join the Real Madrid youth academy.”
“I close this chapter after more than 450 games, after giving absolutely everything. I can only thank you for every blow, for every magical night, for pushing us to impossible victories, and for making the Bernabeu the place where dreams come true. Thank you for being there in the hard times, for your unconditional support, and for making me feel part of something much bigger than myself.”
“I leave with a full heart and eternal pride. Knowing that I gave everything for this club, because being a Madridista is not explained, but felt. Goodbye forever, Real Madrid.”
It is pertinent to note that Carvajal is known for his incredible feats of winning 27 titles, including six Champions Leagues, and four La Liga titles.
