The UFC has announced that Alexander Volkanovski will return to the Octagon for the first time since his lightweight title challenge on home soil in early 2023, and will face Diego Lopes for the second straight time at the upcoming event.
Volkanovski has fought in his hometown of New South Wales for the second time since beating Shane Young in November 2017.
UFC president Dana White announced via Instagram on Thursday evening that Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje will compete for the interim championship.
UFC fans have been eagerly awaiting an intriguing fight before Volkanovski retires.
The Australian has long harbored a desire to fight in the Harbor City again, but timing has always remained a central issue.
Fans will be able to see one of Australia’s megastars defend his title on home soil, and the event will kick off with a new partnership for UFC in the region.
Furthermore, Volkanovski will now look forward to defeating Lopes for a second time following his decisive victory in Miami at UFC 314 last April.
