A crucial hygiene practice is emphasized as a daily necessity that is often overlooked: tongue scraping.
As the new year begins, some people are eager to adopt healthier habits to improve their overall well-being.
Regardless of your resolutions or goals, it’s a routine that many may not incorporate into their dental hygiene routine.
Tongue scraping is a crucial step that uses a device to scrape the surface of the tongue, removing dead skin cells, bacteria and even leftover food particles.
This is not a new concept, with a renowned brand Oral-B and informs that it has been practiced for “hundreds of years, with some ancient cultures using tools made of ivory and whalebone as tongue scrapers.”
Oral-B stated: “Scrapers not only work as a tongue cleaner, but can also improve your breath and taste, boosting your overall oral hygiene.”
“Tongue scraping cannot replace brushing or other elements of your oral hygiene routine, but it can complement them and help improve long- and short-term oral health,” they concluded.
How to scrape your tongue?
While scraping your tongue, start from the furthest point back and pull the scraper from the back toward the tip with light pressure.
Be sure to clean the scraper after each stroke to remove any built-up debris and repeat the scraping routine several times until your tongue looks and feels fresh.
