Did you know that you can easily reduce your risk of diabetes?
A medical expert has recommended a simple ’12-hour’ eating window that could improve your health.
Not only does this approach help you eliminate late-night snacking, a rather unhealthy practice, but it can also help burn fat while lowering your risk of diabetes.
Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, an author and former NHS GP (GP), shared this nutritional strategy Channel 4‘S Live well with the drug-free doctor.
The show’s host explained that many of his patients who are looking for improvements in their health could benefit from “eating all the food you are going to consume on any given day within a twelve-hour period.”
The doctor explained, “Let’s say you eat your last meal of the day at 7 p.m. For the next four hours, you use the fuel you just ate at that last meal, mainly glucose.”
“After four hours, and while you sleep, your body is running on glycogen stored in your liver. But the thing is, once you’ve gained weight about ten hours after your last meal, those glycogen stores are pretty much depleted and you’re probably burning fat,” said Dr. Chatterjee on.
“Being able to switch gears using these different energy sources is called metabolic flexibility – a key indicator of life expectancy. Studies show that time-restricted eating can help you burn fat and lose weight, improve your sleep, improve your digestion, improve immune system function and reduce your risk of developing diseases such as type 2 diabetes,” he concluded.
