Claire Foy played the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the early seasons of the smash hit series, The Crown.

In a new conversation with magazine Radio Timesthe actress weighed in on her experiences after starring in The Crown.

In doing so, she admitted that the role marked a dramatic turning point in her professional life.

“I had been working for almost ten years when I made it, but no one knew who I was. It was like being in a blockbuster movie,” Foy recalls.

She explained that the global success of the series opened doors she had never had access to before.

“After that, I was given opportunities that I had never had before. It’s the biggest promotion you can imagine,” she said.

Foy expanded on the idea that such an iconic role could feel restrictive, pushing back against the idea that it comes with long-term pressure.

“I don’t think it’s a double-edged sword. I doubt Olivia Newton-John hated being known for Grease — I bet she loved it! If I had just done The Crown and never worked again, that would be one thing. But I don’t really feel any pressure to be anything to anyone else,” the actress explained.

Before reaching a conclusion, Foy admitted that she had kept her approach simple and grounded.

“I’m just doing my job,” she concluded.
