Amy Madigan has earned her second Oscar nomination in more than four decades for her role in Weapons.
In a new conversation with PEOPLE Magazinethe veteran actress admitted she was still in shock shortly after the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards were announced on Thursday.
“I’m just a little bit blown away by the whole journey I’ve been on,” Madigan reflected, expressing awe at the recognition she received almost four decades into her career.
“This is just a piece that I didn’t expect, but I’m just really happy and satisfied. It’s really a reflection of the movie Weapons and how people are reacting to it. Nothing feels better than that,” she added.
Madigan also shared a behind-the-scenes moment from the nomination process. She revealed that Weapons’ publicists advised her to “keep her phone on” in case a nomination came through.
“So I was woken up in a very unusual, surreal and pleasant way,” she told the publication before the end.
She previously spoke about the character’s impact while accepting her score Critics Choice Awards.
“I get makeup tutorials and paintings. I even have this weird thing about her being a ‘s** icon’ that I didn’t go too deep into.”
