Kaia Gerber shares how mom Cindy Crawford learned body positivity.
The 24-year-old actress looked back on her childhood growing up and saw the milestones in her mother’s modeling career, including daring photo shoots, that shaped her idea of body confidence as a woman.
“They were artistic to me. It wasn’t vulgar; it wasn’t objectification,” Gerber said Harper’s Bazaar.
For the Palm Royale actress, it was “a gift to grow up in a home where there was no shame for the female body.”
Gerber, who started her modeling career as a teenager, further revealed that her mother maintained minimal involvement in her career to let the Bottoms alum pave her own path in the industry.
“She doesn’t give advice unless you ask for it,” Gerber said. “But if you ask, be prepared because she will be very honest in a way that can be hard to hear.
Gerber added of her mother, “She’s usually right, which is annoying, but she’s also very willing to let me fix a mistake she made 30 years ago.”
Crawford, who is also mother to son Presley, whom she shares with husband Rande Gerber, once opened up about her risqué photo shoot in an interview with City & Country back in 2018.
“I took a lot of nudes. The only ones I regretted were the ones where I was talked into,” she said at the time. “I don’t want my kids to ever look back and think, ‘Gosh, I wish I hadn’t done that.’ I want to give them the strength to just say, ‘I’m out of here.’”
