Amanda Seyfried has opened up about what really drove her to take on the titular role Ann Lee’s will.
Looking back on the project, the actress admitted that once she committed to the role, an overwhelming emotion stayed with her throughout the process.
“Fear,” she revealed.
Seyfried further explained that her hesitation stemmed from entering material that seemed far removed from the present, something she had previously struggled with.
This feeling was similar to the one she encountered after playing Marion Davies, the mistress of media mogul William Randolph Hearst, in David Fincher’s Citizen Kane drama. Limp.
“Anything that seems far removed from the contemporary nature of the world scares me,” she said, before adding that this discomfort is exactly what makes the experience worthwhile.
“That makes it a thousand times more worth it,” she added.
Despite the persistent nerves, Seyfried’s performance has already received a lot of praise. An anonymous Academy voter recently said this Variety that the actress “was amazing…I haven’t seen a better performance this year,” even as she admitted that they “didn’t really like the movie.”
