Oscar voters reveal why Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo didn’t get nominations for their roles in Bad: forever.
Grande, 32, played Glinda the Good in the sequel to 2024’s Bad while Erivo, 39, starred as Elphaba. The couple’s criticism of the 2026 Oscars caused a stir.
Now voters say they “scared away” many people during the promotional tour with their overly affectionate display.
“The movie wasn’t that great. The two have great on-screen chemistry but spent most of the movie apart,” the voter shared. News Nation.
“I also absolutely loved their promotional appearances. They scared a lot of people and in their haste to feel authentic, they came across as cosplaying,” the voter noted.
Another voter gave an even more scathing comment on the duo, saying: “The movie wasn’t that good and… [Erivo and Grande] sucked the air out of the red carpet they were on – and no one wanted to go through that again.”
“Think of it this way: we protected Ariana from her fear — and Cynthia from the need to intervene. Once again,” they added.
The promotional tour moments that gave netizens the ick included one Elle magazine interview in which they described each other’s auras.
Grande said Erivo’s was “yellow,” like “sunshine,” adding, “I think there’s purple too.”
The outsider star told the Side by side hitmaker: “I see it, like ciel blue, you know? Like aqua. And sunset orange.”
In another chilling moment, Grande held Erivo’s index finger as she got emotional in an interview.
