Peter Napolitano, a beloved New York City television personality, has died at the age of 80.
NBC New York announced Peter’s death on Monday, January 26, describing the TV star as “a fixture on our weekend morning news.”
“For more than 30 years, WNBC viewers watched ‘Produce Pete’ deliver his fruit and vegetable recommendations and cooking tips on Saturday mornings on Weekend Today in New York,” Amy Morris, Senior Vice President of News for NBC 4 New York, wrote in an emotional statement shared on social media.
“He was a beloved member of our broadcast family and our viewers felt the same way, whether they visited him at our Health Expo, our Feeding our Families Food Drives or the many farmers markets in New Jersey, where he always felt right at home,” Amy added.
Following the heartbreaking news, Peter’s fans rushed to the comments section of his latest Instagram post to offer their condolences.
“Thank you for a cool Saturday morning learning about produce. Thank you for teaching us that if we eat right, we will live right. RIP Pete,” one person wrote.
“With everything going on in the world today, hearing of Produce Pete’s passing hit me hard! It wouldn’t be a Saturday or Sunday morning without his smiling face,” said another.
