Jessica Pegula put in a strong performance in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, taking control early against compatriot Amanda Anisimova to win the opening set 6-2.
Sixth-seeded Pegula came out with confidence and immediately put Anisimova under pressure. She earned an early break and set the tone steady. Anisimova, the tournament’s fourth seed, struggled to find consistency early on as Pegula dictated most of the rallies.
As the first set unfolded, Pegula continued to look at ease, holding serve with ease and capitalizing on Anisimova’s mistakes.
Anisimova made 13 errors in the opening set, almost double Pegula’s total, making it difficult for her to build momentum.
Pegula also leaned on her serve, recording six aces in the first set and closing it out in just 30 minutes.
There was a brief break at the start of the second set as Anisimova left the court, but once play resumed, Pegula remained in control.
Anisimova showed signs she could have settled with improved service games, but Pegula continued to apply pressure and earned another break to remain firmly in the lead.
Towards the end of the match, Pegula’s consistency and ability to capitalize on key opportunities proved decisive.
