Ethan Hawke reveals why he’s filming a gruesome new historical drama this summer The weight was one of his most difficult times.
The weight is a Depression-era adventure drama that stars Ethan Hawke as a veteran father trying to regain custody of his daughter while navigating a risky gold smuggling operation and betrayal from within his own ranks.
“This was one of the hardest summers of my life,” Hawke said EW on Tuesday. “When I’m in the water, in the woods, I keep saying, ‘Oh, it’s an action movie without that much action,’ but it was exhausting. Just worrying about the ticks.”
Hawke recently attended the Sundance Film Festival to promote The Weight. There he spoke about the stunt expectations of actors after the death of stunt-defying Tom Cruise in the film Mission: Impossible And Top pistol movies.
“Tom Cruise completely changed what was expected of actors,” he said Variety.
“Part of me gets angry over the years because everyone somehow feels like they’re inferior when they use a stunt team,” he candidly shared.
Luckily for the Black phone star, The weight did not contain any “ridiculous stunts”.
“It’s human. It’s not about things exploding, so most of the stunts were things we could do. They weren’t superhero things,” he noted.
The weight premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and stars Russell Crowe alongside Ethan Hawke.
