Michael Keaton Recalls His Collaboration with Catherine O’Hara in ‘Beetlejuice’

Michael Keaton reflects on working with the late Catherine O’Hara Beetle juice.

The 74-year-old American actor opened up about his friendship with his late friend O’Hara on Friday, February 6, at Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2026 Man of the Year event in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

For those who don’t know, O’Hara passed away on January 30 at the age of 71.

When asked about his first interaction with the Canadian-American actress and comedian, Keaton said, “I was a huge SCTV fan. I’m the biggest SCTV fan. And I’m trying to think, when was it?”

“I think I was making a movie in Toronto. … I remember we kind of met or knew each other, because she, like me, has a big family. She’s one of seven, and I’m one of seven. And so somehow we became friends,” he recalled.

“I remember one night in Toronto where she was having a summer [with her] brothers and sisters, and we were all playing pool in a bar somewhere. But I think I knew her before, and I had a hard time remembering,” said the Batman star remembered.

It is pertinent to mention that Keaton was the one who paid tribute to O’Hara after her death was confirmed by her manager.
