Noel Gallagher has strongly refuted critics of his award.
Noel will take home the Songwriter Of The Year BRIT Award at the ceremony on February 28. However, the Oasis singer hasn’t written any new songs in 2025, so people think he doesn’t deserve the award.
He said, “I haven’t written a song in two years. I’m not sure how I got away with that, but I’ll take it.”
“Honestly I think they were just desperate to get someone from Oasis because it’s Manchester. Our kid said he wasn’t going,” he added.
TalkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein asked the singer what he thinks of the reaction to his victory. He replied: “I think the British are all based on record sales, and I’m not sure there was another songwriter who sold… I mean, we sold a million records last year.”
“I couldn’t even get off the couch and I’m not sure there’s a songwriter who can top that. But you know what, if anyone has a problem with it, come to me. We’ll bring it out on the red carpet,” he challenged.
“If one of those songwriting teams with wet wipes, all eleven of them, wants to write a song together and have it on the red carpet, then I’m there,” he fired.
Stacey Tang, Chair of the BRIT Awards Committee 2026 and Co-President of RCA Records at Sony Music UK, explained why Noel is this year’s chosen honour, saying: “His songs soundtrack multiple generations and define the spirit of British music worldwide.”
“Honoring Noel as Songwriter of the Year celebrates a remarkable body of work and a creative force that continues to connect and inspire artists and fans around the world,” she added.
