Olympic skier Breezy Johnson is making headlines after a surprise proposal in Cortina D’Ampezzo, and the moment is quickly going viral on social media.
This comes just days after the American star won downhill gold at the Winter Olympics.
According to CNBC, Johnson’s boyfriend Connor Watkins proposed Thursday at the foot of the Super G finish area, dropping to one knee as teammates and international competitors looked on.
Watkins presented a silver ring with a blue gemstone and a carved piece of wood with lyrics from Taylor Swift’s The Alchemy.
Watkins said the proposal had been planned for months and was “beyond our wildest imagination.”
Johnson admitted that she suspected this moment might happen, explaining that she “might have told him that I always had the dream of getting engaged at the Olympics.”
Reflecting on the emotional week, Johnson said, “I mean, that was my hope!”
“But it’s definitely crazier because everything happens all at once, and the reality of it is so different than you imagined, and so much better.”
The engagement comes shortly after a difficult Super G race in which Johnson crashed and did not finish.
Still, she says, “There’s nothing better than doing it right and having someone to share it with.”
