James Van Der Beek’s close friend Erin Fetherston has revealed his family is in desperate need of financial support.
When James died, a GoFundMe page was set up for the actor’s family to receive donations to support them after his long and costly battle with cancer. The page has raised over $2 million to date.
“I am so happy and grateful that so many people feel moved in their hearts as those of us close to us feel,” shared designer Erin. ExtraTV on Thursday.
“There is a genuine and urgent need here for the family. They have really been through it, and I want to thank on their behalf everyone who has given and who may feel inspired to give,” she added.
She explained that after the Dawson’s Creek star’s death from stage III colorectal cancer, his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and loved ones are struggling financially.
“These are six children facing a life without a father,” Fetherston, 44, added. “Their wonderful mother Kimberly has been a devoted wife and mother. She has had six children and has gone public about baby loss. She has dealt with motherhood and supported James all these years. Now she really has to pick up the pieces.”
She added: “By supporting them, you are helping them maintain some stability in their lives after going through a terribly challenging, painful and heartbreaking journey that ended in the loss of their father.”
James is survived by his wife Kimberly, 43, and children Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 8, Gwendolyn, 6, and Jeremiah, 3.
