George Russell and Arvid Lindblad will be investigated by the FIA after the conclusion of FP2 at the Australian Grand Prix.
The pair of Brits collided early in the second hour of the race in Melbourne when the Racing Bulls rookie drove over the Mercedes driver’s front wing.
Russell had the front of his W17 out, hoping to enter the fast lane at Albert Park, but Lindblad continued to drive forward, and that’s when contact was made.
However, as it was the five-time Grand Prix winner who made the breakthrough, he is likely to be at the center of the governing body’s investigation.
Russell was seventh in the first FP1 of the season, while Lindbald impressed by putting his VCARB 03 in fifth place; only slower than the two Ferraris and Red Bulls.
In addition, Franco Colapinto will also be investigated for “driving unnecessarily slowly” on the racing line along the pit straight.
As a result, Lewis Hamilton almost suffered the blow and had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the Alpine from behind at high speed.
Hamilton had very little time to get out of the way, but he did so in time to avoid a major collision.
On his team radio, Hamilton said: “Ah, there was a car that was slowly going crazy on the pit straight.”
The stewards were far from impressed with Colapinto’s driving and placed an investigation on the Argentinian racer.
