Three Tony-nominated actress Mary Beth Hurt died on Saturday.
The actress, known for her work in ‘The World According to Garp’ (1982) and ‘Affliction’ (1997), died on March 28 at the age of 78, after a more than ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mary’s death news was announced Sunday by her daughter Molly Schrader on Instagram, and the death was also confirmed by Mary’s husband, writer-director Paul Schrader, to The Hollywood Reporter.
Molly wrote down a detailed note along with a baby photo of herself with her mother, in which she wrote: “Yesterday morning we lost my mother, Mary Beth, to Alzheimer’s after a decade-long battle with the disease. She was an actress, a wife, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a friend, and she took on all those roles with grace and gentle ferocity.
“While we grieve, there is some comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and has been reunited with her sisters in peace.”
For those unfamiliar, the late actress was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015.
Mary was known for her ’80s stage and film roles, appearing in Oscar-nominated films including ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ and ‘The World According to Garp’.
She told me Theaterlife.com in 2010 that she believed she was “born an actress”.
