Nearly 28% of Americans confessed to pursuing “intimate or romantic” connections with AI chatbots, a survey shows.

The Vantage Point Counseling Services survey found that at least 54% of respondents believe AI was a colleague, friend or even a family member.

Some respondents categorize their relationship with AI as a platonic friendship, business or work colleague, personal trainer, therapist, sibling or parent, and others.

Vantage also shared a list of at least thirty AI platforms with which respondents claim to have a relationship.

According to the research, GPT is at the top, while Apple’s Siri and Google’s Gemini fall in the top five.

An increase in AI chatbot relationships was noted after a family studies institute stated that the US is experiencing a decline in real-life relationships.

In June, a man proposed to his AI girlfriend after a 100,000-word conversation, despite having a partner and a child.

The survey found that up to 37.55% were not currently seeking a human relationship or had failed to pursue human romantic relationships in the recent past. At least 33.69% were currently cheating on their partner or casually dating.

Furthermore, up to 19.30% are not currently in an intimate or romantic human relationship, but are looking for a partner or partners.
