Andrew Watt calls Elton John ‘extremely volatile’

Andrew Watt recently got candid and opened up about working with Elton John.

For those who don’t know, the 35-year-old American producer and Elton collaborated with Brandi Carlile on his major collaborative album, Who believes in angels?, which was released on April 4, 2025.

During a conversation with PEOPLE magazine Watt stated that the 78-year-old British singer-songwriter and pianist resembles “Mozart or Beethoven,” especially when he works.

He said of Elton: “[He’s] a bit more like Beethoven, I would say, and when he writes he is extremely volatile.

The Mulberry tree Hitmaker further noted that all music artists work in their own way, which is very different, but he had to perform in a specific way while collaborating with the Grammy-winning artist.

Watt recalled, “My job is to read the room, and if you’re in Elton’s eyeline while he’s writing, you’re in the lion’s den. So I tried to be near him to make sure I was close enough when he would call me or need something, or I could hear what he was doing, what he was up to.”

Despite being attentive, the Rebel nation crooner “would try to stay out of his direct line of sight” because Elton writes songs “in a way that no one else really writes.”

“He takes [a lyric]puts it on the piano, reads it, sees a movie scene in his head and then scores the movie. And as he scores the film, he starts singing the words, fitting them into the chords and coming up with melodies based on the words and the phonetics of the words,” Andrew Watt shared.
