Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Salman Naseer has announced that an auction will be held for the introduction of two new franchises in the 11th edition of the tournament.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Bank Stadium on Wednesday, Naseer said: “An auction will be held for two new PSL franchises, and interested bidders will be provided with a list of city names to choose from for their teams.”
He further explained that existing franchise owners will have the right to match the valuation of the new teams to maintain ownership of their current franchises.
“As the revaluation of the existing six PSL franchises nears completion, current team owners will have the right to match the new valuations to retain ownership or opt out,” Naseer added.
He said that under their existing agreements, the team owners will have the first right of renewal for the next ten editions based on that rating.
“If a franchise subsequently chooses not to renew, these team rights will be offered through an open process, allowing new investors to participate under the updated structure.”
Replying to a question to Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, who had recently criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and tore up the legal notice he had received from the board, Naseer said PSL-related issues should be resolved ‘behind closed doors’.
“You want me to do the same as them, tarnish the reputation of this league. I cannot do that. If this matter has to be discussed, it will be done legally in the boardroom, and if it has to be resolved, it will be done behind closed doors. To say anything more would only add fuel to the fire,” Naseer said while responding to a question.
