Barry Keoghan exposes the ‘nasty side’ of social media in a heartbreaking confession

Barry Keoghan has lifted the lid on the way he is criticized online for his appearance.

Keoghan sat down with Ben Harlum for SiriusXM’s Friday, March 20 episode The morning mash-up, where he talked about dealing with online hate related to the way he looks.

He told the presenter: “There’s a lot of hate online. There’s a lot of abuse of the way I look.”

The 33-year-old Irish actor has “an incredible fan base” and “the people there are so nice,” but there “is also a nasty side.”

Referring to his three-year-old son Brando, Keoghan noted, “It’s also disappointing that my son has to read all these things as he gets older.”

The unfortunate incidents Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Starfaces online have forced him to break away from social media, but because he’s a “curious person,” he “wants to go.”

Referring to the constant online criticism that has taken a toll on him, he said: “When I attend an event or go somewhere, [I] I want to see how it was received, and that’s not nice. It made me shy away, it made me really go inward and not want to go places, not want to go out.”

“And I’ll say this, absolutely straight and honestly with you. It’s going to be a problem. I don’t actually go places because of these things,” Keoghan admitted.

Also, “If that starts to leak into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don’t even want to be on screen anymore,” The Batman actor noted.

It is noteworthy to mention that Barry Keoghan, who has films like Saltburn, Crime 101, American Animal, Eternals, Killing a Sacred Deer, and others to his credit, is currently working on The Beatles – A cinematic event with four films, which will be released sometime in 2028.
