Billie Eilish, the 23-year-old Grammy winner known for her outspoken nature, recently criticized Elon Musk in a heated Instagram post.
After sharing slides from My Voice My Choice Org highlighting Musk’s vast wealth and how it could be used to support global causes, Eilish called the billionaire a “f–king pathetic py bitch coward.”
The slides noted that Musk, identified by Forbes be the first person to reach a net worth of $500 billion, “end world hunger” with $40 billion a year, “save 10,443 critically endangered species” with $1-2 billion a year, or rebuild Gaza for $53.2 billion.
Eilish expressed frustration that such resources exist while major humanitarian and environmental crises continue.
The Lovely hitmaker has tackled the issue of extreme wealth before. In October, while accepting an honor at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, she directed comments at another tech figure, Mark Zuckerberg, questioning the ethics behind possessing enormous financial power.
“If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?” she asked, adding, “We’re in a time now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than ever, especially in our country.”
She encouraged wealthy individuals to contribute more, saying, “I love you all, but there are some people here who have a lot more money than me. No hate, but hey, give your money away, little ones.” A source later said Zuckerberg felt uncomfortable during her comments.
Eilish’s own actions are consistent with her message. At the same event, it was announced that she had donated $11.5 million from her ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ tour to groups working on food equality, climate justice, carbon reduction and climate change efforts.
