Brendan Fraser says the long-awaited fourth film has arrived The mummy franchise is finally moving forward – and this time it’s the movie he hoped to make.
Speaking with the Associated pressthe actor revealed that the upcoming episode will “give the fans what they want.”
Fraser explained that despite the success of the original trilogy, the continuation he envisioned never became a reality. “The one I wanted to make never got made,” he said.
Thinking about the 2008 sequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperorhe added: “I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone film… We picked it up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and did the best we could. But the one I wanted to make is coming. And I’ve been waiting for this call for 20 years.”
He continued: “Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was faintly telegraphed. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
Momentum around the franchise picked up again after a cast reunion in July. Fraser, Patricia Velásquez, John Hannah and Oded Fehr reunited at Fan Expo Denver on July 6, marking 26 years since the original release in 1999.
Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo were not present, although multiple media outlets are reporting that Weisz is currently in talks to return for the new film.
The upcoming project is expected to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind it Ready or notthe recent one Scream movies and Abigail. Plot details and a release timeline remain under wraps.
