In a new conversation with Vogue magazineLuke Thompson was asked what feels most fundamentally different about Bridgerton season four compared to the first three.
The actor, who plays Benedict Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, suggested that the upcoming chapter will open up the show’s world in a more grounded and layered way.
“I love that we’re getting an upstairs/downstairs element for the first time,” Thompson began, pointing out how season four will explore different social perspectives beyond the glittering high society the series is known for.
The actor also discussed how shifting the focus away from just the rich and powerful adds emotional depth to the story and helps balance the series’ fantasy with a more realistic edge.
“So far, the world of Bridgerton might feel more fantastic, because you see the rich and popular side of society, and it looks beautiful, and there’s drama. But exploring a different version 1770322826 grounds it. Hopefully the universe will expand.”
Reflecting on how this thematic shift reflects the season’s central romance, Thompson explained that the couple’s emotional arc is rooted in balancing dreamlike romance with real-world challenges.
“Maybe it has a little more roots now. And it’s perfect that this happens in the season where the whole question of the couple is: how do you bring love to the earth? Falling in love is a mixture of fantasy and reality,” he continued.
Before wrapping up, Thompson added that this contrast between imagination and realism is at the heart of the season’s storytelling.
“It’s where fantasy and reality meet. So it’s a great symbol.”
