Pakistan and India Captains will probably skip the traditional pre-final trophy shoot prior to the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final.
The ultimate game with high deployment of the continental tournament between the arch rivals will be played on Sunday (tomorrow) in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
While the organizers confirmed on Saturday that such an event would not be held, they said that a definitive decision about whether the captains would be taken together with the trophy could only be taken on Sunday before the competition.
In the meantime, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha is planned to tackle a press conference today at 7 p.m., while the national team will keep their last training session at the ICC Academy in Dubai from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The controversy around interactions between players started during the group stage when the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused the usual handshake with the Pakistan captain at the Worp.
The situation repeated at the end of the game when Yadav, after scoring the winning runs, ran away without shaking hands with the opposition.
After that match, the Indian players immediately returned to the dressing room and closed the doors while Pakistan’s players were waiting for the traditional post-match courtesy.
This led to a protest from Pakistan team manager Nveed Akram Cheema, who filed a complaint against the behavior of India and also against competition referee Andy Pycroft for wrong dealing with the case.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) later showed that Pycroft apologized and called the incident a “miscommunication”.
Tensions rose on September 21 during the Super Fours Clash, where both teams again disguised hands -on and after the game.
