Chappell Roan accidentally made a mistake during her speech at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, causing the audience to erupt in laughter.
The 27-year-old pop superstar took the stage to introduce Cyndi Lauper for her Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, November 8, and honored the musician’s legacy in her speech.
The Good luck, honey! hitmaker began: “I think we can all agree that the best art comes from the most authentic people. When artists stay true to themselves, even when some people say they are too much, too loud, too eccentric, or all of the above, honesty becomes their greatest strength.”
Then Roan, who donned an outfit inspired by Lauper’s True colors video clip, struggled to read the words, she said, “I f—,” before immediately doing a double take and saying, “I messed up so bad by refusing to get contacts. Holy cow.”
The audience chuckled as she continued the rest of the speech praising Lauper’s contributions to the arts, saying, “Tonight we honor a woman who redefined what a pop star could look, sound, sing and be. A music legend whose authenticity has inspired us over the past four decades with her four-octave range and the astonishingly fantastic Cyndi Lauper.”
The Time and time again singer then joined Roan on stage to accept the honor, going on to perform many of her hits.
