Charli XCX, a renowned musician, plays a fictionalized pop singer in her latest mockumentary, The Moment. But she says her character is not entirely fictional.
“I obviously relate a lot to my character, so I had a lot of inspiration to draw from,” she said during the film’s screening at the Sundance Film Festival.
She also jokes that her managers in the audience know how much she resembles the character on display The moment.
“I’d like to think I’m not as much of a nightmare as Charli is in the movie, but my real managers are in the audience and they probably know the true answer to that.”
Like any musician, Charli admits she’s had “spiral moments,” adding, “I’ve been there.” I think as an artist I’m quite a volatile person. And still fun. I’m also quite nice. Right?”
In addition, Charli is joined on stage by the cast of her mockumentary: Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Hailey Gates, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Tish Weinstock, Michael Workéyè and Alexander Skarsgård.
Meanwhile, the logline of The moment read: “A rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure as she prepares for her arena tour debut.”
The film debuts in theaters on January 30.
