Christopher Nolan revealed that his new film The Odyssey was filmed over 91 days with more than six million meters of film.
The acclaimed director said he wanted to bring Homer’s famous Greek epic to life with the scale and realism of a major Hollywood production.
Nolan explained that he is always looking for ways to do something new in cinema and push its boundaries.
He said that while he grew up watching mythological films, the 55-year-old icon has never seen the story of Odysseus told with this kind of weight and authenticity.
Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, who reunites with Nolan after working together on Oppenheimer And Interstellar.
Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus and the cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.
However, Nolan described filming as challenging, with many scenes shot in real locations, including the open ocean.
He said the daily confrontation with natural conditions made the story even more real and helped the cast understand the hardships of Odysseus’ journey.
Damon called The Odyssey a thrilling summer film with a mythical and epic feel, where it is said that one of the most memorable moments for him was seeing a complete Trojan Horse recreated on set, which left him in awe.
For the unversed, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
Nolans The Odyssey promises to combine the grandeur of ancient mythology with the excitement of modern filmmaking, offering audiences a daring and compelling cinematic adventure.
