Karachi: A 28-year-old man from Karachi, who was a butcher by profession, died of the Crima Congo-Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), generally known as Congo virus, on Friday.
The individual was admitted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center only two days earlier, with symptoms of high fever and abdominal pain, according to hospital management.
The last death represents the third confirmed case of a deadliness this year due to the Congo virus in Karachi this year.
Allegedly the patient was a butcher by profession, who probably exposed him to infected animal and a common source of transfer for the hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus of the Crimian Congo.
According to hospital management, the diagnosis of the Congo virus was confirmed earlier this morning, based on laboratory test results. Despite the medical efforts, the condition of the patient deteriorated and collapsed at the disease.
Earlier in June, Zubair died, a 26-year-old man from Karachi’s Ibrahim Hyderi and a 42-year-old man from Malir from the disease.
The Congo virus can be transferred via tick bites or through contact with the blood or tissues of infected animals, especially during slaughter. There is currently no vaccine available.
Medical experts have insisted on the public, especially those involved in handling and rejecting animals, to take precautions, such as wearing gloves and protective clothing.
