The Vancouver Canucks have traded winger Conor Garland to the Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
The team announced Thursday that Vancouver will receive a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL draft and a third-round pick in this year’s draft in exchange for the 29-year-old forward.
That extension begins with the 2026-2027 season and he is currently playing the final year of a five-year contract worth $4.95 million per year.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin thanked Garland for his time with the team in a statement, saying, “We greatly appreciate everything Conor has done for the hockey club and would like to thank him for his five years in Vancouver.”
“As a player and strong competitor, he made important contributions on the ice. Collecting two more draft picks fits very well with our vision for the future and will help us as we rebuild.”
Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell also welcomed Garland following the trade.
“Conor is a versatile player who brings great energy to the lineup every night and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome him and his family to Columbus,” Waddell said in a statement.
“He has great character, plays a reliable two-way game and will be an important part of our club now and in the future.”
