The death of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain may have been a murder that was ruled a suicide, according to a new forensic report.
Nirvana broke through to mainstream pop success with the smash hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” the lead single from the band’s second album, “Nevermind,” released in 1991.
Kurt Cobain died on April 5, 1997 at the age of 27. His body was found in his Seattle apartment and the cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face, as Cobain has struggled with substance abuse and depression for years.
A new independent investigation is reigniting the debate over what really happened, challenging the suicide verdict and citing evidence of a forced heroin overdose and how the suicide could have been a staged murder.
The forensic team has presented a peer-reviewed document containing evidence alleging that Cobain may have been confronted by one or more assailants, forcibly overdosed on heroin to “incapacitate” him and then shot in the head. They also claimed that the shotgun found in his hands was allegedly placed in his arms.
Independent investigator Michelle Wilkins, who worked with the team, told the British newspaper Daily Mail that forensic specialist Brian Burnett had reviewed the evidence at the crime scene and the autopsy and concluded that Cobain’s death was a homicide.
Meanwhile, Daily Mail has published new photos of Courtney Love after the forensic report was published.
After her husband’s untimely death, she had relationships but never remarried. They had one child together, a daughter Frances Bean Cobain. She was born about six months after Kurt and Courtney got married.
Frances grew up largely out of the spotlight compared to her parents’ intense fame, but she is known as a visual artist and model.
