The Australian captain Pat Cummins and Slagman Travis Head are reportedly offered millions from a franchise group from the Indian Premier League (IPL) to leave the international cricket and join franchisse-based T20 competitions full-time.
The informal range of $ 10 million to each player was intended to lure them to a worldwide T20 network in India, the VAE, the US and the Caribbean, according to the Australian media. The Sydney Morning Herald.
With the rapid growth of franchise cricket, IPL tame owners have increased their reach by acquiring interests in competitions such as SA20, ILT20, Major League Cricket (MLC), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and The Hundred.
These competitions now offer players contracts of several millions of dollars – often much more than what they earn from national management.
Australian top cricket players who have been contracted by Cricket Australia (CA) reportedly earn around 1.5 million Australian dollars annually.
As a national captain, Cummins earns nearly 3 million Australian dollars, while his IPL deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad adds another 3.7 million dollars.
Head, which also represents the same franchise, earns around $ 1.2 million.
Despite the financial attraction, both Cummins and Head are committed to represent Australia in all formats.
Head in particular made it clear that he did not intend to leave the international cricket, despite the temptations of the franchisericdom.
During a recent interview, Opener Travis Head explained that he decided to play in the Major League Cricket (MLC) to experience first -hand franchise cricket.
He said he wanted to understand the requirements of playing successive tournaments such as the IPL, World Cup and MLC, and described it as an opportunity to experience franchise cricket for four months and to learn how different systems work.
“I played MLC to get a taste of what it would be like to play franchise cricket. Ipl had IPL during a World Championship in MLC, so I wanted to see what it was like to play franchise cricket for four months. You want all the options at your disposal, you want to experience things and understand how things work,” said Head.
“Many people make certain decisions all over the world, and it was a perfect opportunity for me to understand and see what it was like if the time was ripe for what I would do or would not do in the future. Whether I could do it, if I was good at whether I was good at it. I had not played much T20-Cricket for a while, so it was about it again.
The 31-year-old Slagman emphasized that although the experience was valuable, his primary focus on national duty remained.
“It was a perfect time in my life to do that, and now that time has passed. At the moment I play for Australia and I actually don’t see a timeline in which I can play something else,” he concluded.
