Dakota Johnson was given an unexpected role on Friday evening: moderator for a Bugonia conversation with Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and director Yorgos Lanthimos.
The event quickly turned into a playful poking session, with Johnson teasingly pitching himself for Lanthimos’ next project.
“I saw Bugonia twice in the last 24 hours,” Johnson said, “but repeatedly told the crowd she was ‘the wrong person’ to moderate.” “This is not going to be a good interview. I just want you to know that I’m not good at this. I don’t know why I was asked, but here we are,” she said, laughing.
As Johnson navigated the questions on her phone, she joked about Lanthimos working with Emma Stone for the fourth time (in The favorite, poor things, types of kindnessAnd Bugonia).
“Do you know that there are other actresses who are really talented, maybe even very close?” she joked, as Stone interjected, “What! No, right?’, as she looked at Lanthimos. Johnson returned Stone:
“No, go for it, do your pitch, work on your pitch.” Stone laughed and replied, “You’re flirting.”
Johnson praised Stone’s shaved head and gory scenes in the film. “Who the hell looks so beautiful with a shaved head covered in blood?” she mused, to which Stone joked, “You’re flirting.”
Jesse Plemons discussed his character’s wild hair transformation (he wore extensions as a conspiracy theorist), recalling the times he showed Yorgos Lanthimos a new look and the director just laughed.
Later, Stone spoke about the film’s twist ending, noting that it was a “fun challenge” to play a character knowing that audiences would be able to watch the film again. Johnson ended the chat humorously: “I regret doing this. I will never do it again. Is there anything you would like to say before this awful interview is over?”
Plemons said, “It really wasn’t that bad,” while Lanthimos teased, “I think you’re the third best moderator we’ve had.” Johnson responded, “That’s huge. I’ll come along.”
