Daryl Hannah isn’t happy with her role in John F. Kennedy Jr.’s anthology. Love story.
The Splash star broke her years-long silence about her relationship with John F. Kennedy Jr. and responded to the television series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.
Ryan Murphy’s nine-episode series is the first installment about the life of John F. Kennedy Jr., which also features his relationships in the 1990s, including his on-and-off dating of Hannah before he married Carolyn Bessette.
However, Hannah criticized the series, calling her portrayal in the series far from reality.
“The character ‘Daryl Hannah’ portrayed in the series is not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my behavior, or my relationship with John. The actions and behaviors attributed to me are not true,” she wrote in The New York Times
“I have long believed that dealing with distortion often reinforces this. But a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette features a character who uses my name and introduces her as me. The choice to portray her as annoying, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate was no accident.”
Pointing to a scene from the series where she attended a cocaine-fueled party with her friends, she disapproved of the scene, writing, “I have never done cocaine or hosted parties fueled by cocaine in my life. I have never pressured anyone to get married. I have never desecrated a family heirloom or infringed on anyone’s private monument.”
She further refuted other key moments featured on the show: “I never planted a story in the press. I have never compared the death of Jacqueline Onassis to that of a dog. It’s devastating to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show. These are not creative embellishments of personality.”
“They are behavioral claims – and they are false,” Hannah stated.
