Dax Shepard set to make shocking revelation about childhood sexual abuse in new memoir

Dax Shepard talks about some difficult topics in his new memoir.

The Hit and run actor, 51, spoke about the issue with Marcus Mumford during a March 2 episode of his Armchair expert podcast.

“I want to connect with you about this experience, which is, I’ve been here acknowledging that I’ve been abused for years, and that was its own hurdle to just say that,” Shepard began on the topic. “And I felt pretty comfortable saying that. That was fine.”

Shepared, who has previously detailed his experiences with childhood sexual abuse in his 2022 song: Cannibalalso revealed that he has documented his own abuse story in an upcoming memoir.

“Now I’m writing a memoir, and last year it was basically the whole year about ‘do I have the balls to write the details of this?’” he continued. “Because the details would always be mine. I didn’t want anyone to put me in front of them. It’s weird that that was still a wall between my shame.”

Shepard, who shares daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11, with wife Kristen Bell, added that he had no problem saying the abuse itself had occurred, admitting that it was very difficult to recreate the details in writing.

“I bet it took me four months to tell that story,” he recalls. “And when I write it, I can’t help but think about people knowing this about me and how exposed that still feels.”

“And I was quite emotional for the few months,” he added of the writing process. “I had really weird, kind of spikes of emotions and moodiness, and I would forget that that was why I had that. But I finished it, and something about it that exists there feels like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”

Shepard first revealed that he was abused as a child in 2020, noting that the abuse was “minimal” but had a profound effect on him and his later struggles with addiction.
