Diane Keaton, AMC Theaters honors the late star with a special tribute, featuring two of her most beloved films: Annie Hall And Something has to giveback to the big screen.
Variety confirmed that both films will play in 100 US theaters for a week starting Friday.
The tribute follows Keaton’s death on October 11 in Los Angeles. The Oscar-winning actress was 79 and was rushed from her home to hospital before her death.
Annie Hallthe 1977 romantic comedy that defined a generation earned Keaton her first Academy Award and made her one of Hollywood’s most distinctive talents.
Keaton co-starred with longtime collaborator Woody Allen as the free-spirited Annie Hall in the film’s introspective look at love, memory and heartbreak.
The performance remains one of the most celebrated in film history.
More than twenty years later, Keaton set a new career high with Nancy Meyers’ 2003 hit Something has to givewhich earned her a fourth Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
The romantic comedy, starring Jack Nicholson, followed the unexpected love story between an older bachelor and the mother of his younger girlfriend, played with Keaton’s signature charm and warmth.
The film became a worldwide success, earning $265 million worldwide on an $80 million budget.
Throughout her career, Keaton earned four Oscar nominations, for which she won Annie Hall and be recognized again for her performances in Red (1982), Marvin’s room (1997), and Something has to give (2003).
She also left her mark on iconic films such as The godfather, Father of the brideAnd Baby boom.
Following the news of her death, heartfelt tributes poured in from Hollywood.
Woody Allen, her co-star and collaborator, wrote in an essay for The free press“It’s grammatically incorrect to say ‘most unique,’ but all the rules of grammar, and I guess everything else, are suspended when it comes to Diane Keaton. Unlike anyone who has lived on the planet or will likely never see it again, her face and smile lit up every room she entered.”
