Recalling their time together, she said, “You stole the hearts of the world and shared your genius with millions, making films that made us laugh and cry in ways only you could. I was blessed to make First Wives Club with you, our days started with coffee in the makeup trailer, laughing and joking, right up to the very last day of filming. It was a rollercoaster of love.”
Although no cause of death has yet been revealed, Keaton’s longtime friend and songwriter Carole Bayer told Sager PEOPLE that the actress has seemed noticeably vulnerable in recent weeks.
“I saw her two or three weeks ago and she was very thin,” Sager said. “She had lost so much weight.”
Sager said Keaton spent time in Palm Springs earlier this year after her home was damaged by the California wildfires of January 2025.
“She had to go to Palm Springs because her house was damaged inside, and they had to clean everything out,” Sager said.
“She was there for a while, and when she came back, I was quite stunned by how much weight she had lost.”
Sager remembered her late friend and described Keaton as “a magical light for everyone.”
She added: “I just loved her. She was so special, she just lit up a room with her energy. She was happy and cheerful and took pictures of everything she saw. She was completely creative; she never stopped creating.”
