British singer Dua Lipa has made some rare political comments on her Instagram account, dividing her fans.
The “Levitating” singer shared a statement from her Service 95 platform regarding the ongoing situation in Iran.
“In Iran we are seeing massacres on a scale like never before,” read a quote Dua Lipa shared in her Instagram stories. The singer’s story was shared with the words “Keep an eye on Iran.”
Citing human rights activists in Iran, the statement from Dua Lipa’s Service 95 said: “More than 90 million Iranians are currently cut off from the rest of the world, preventing information from coming in – and out.”
Since the start of protests in Iran on December 28 against the country’s economic situation, HRA, which compares its information with sources in Iran, has confirmed that 5,002 people have been killed – including 43 children under the age of 18. More than 12,000 additional cases are still being assessed.
A large number of the singer’s Iranian followers thanked her for speaking on their behalf, but those who supported the Iranian government criticized Dua Lipa for speaking on behalf of their country’s enemies.
