England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series and will be replaced in the squad by Matthew Fisher due to a recurrence of his left knee injury.
The recent revelation is a major blow for England, who are already 2-0 down in the series.
The 35-year-old only returned to action after an eight-month absence during the first Test in Perth following a knee injury.
Wood developed swelling in the same left knee and had to miss the second test.
He wrote in an Instagram post: “None of us expected this. I came here with high expectations of making a big impact. I am desperately disappointed that despite even more injections and medical treatments, it has become clear.”
As reported by the BBCIt is a major setback for the tourists, who are already 2-0 down, and for Wood, whose international future is uncertain.
It has been observed that his career was disrupted by injuries, and the Perth Test marked the end of a 15-month absence from Test cricket due to an elbow injury.
Wood bravely bowled 11 overs at the Perth Stadium without taking a wicket.
However, Australian coach Andrew McDonald confirmed captain Pat Cummins will be available when the hosts gather for the third Test on Wednesday.
The recent changes involving the exclusion of England fast bowler Mark Wood from the Ashes tour are a major setback for the struggling England side, making it difficult to bounce back from a series.
Australia could recall batsman Usman Khawaja after the opener struggled with a back injury in the first Test and missed the second.
Additionally, McDonald said Khawaja could return at number five, leaving a new association of Travis Head and Jake Weatherald intact.
