Eric Dane final emotional words revealed after tragic death

Eric Dane said, “Third, choose your friends wisely.”

American actor Eric Dane, who played the handsome ‘Dr Mark Sloan’ in the popular television series ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, died on Thursday at the age of 53.

Dane breathed his last less than a year after revealing he was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

For 15 years, Dane played a plastic surgeon nicknamed “McSteamy” by female characters on the show.

He also starred in the series ‘Euphoria’ and said he would still return to the set after the diagnosis.

Now Netflix has shared the actor’s last words after his death.

Dane admitted to Brad Falchuk during their confidential recordings Famous last words in November 2025, an interview that he understood would not be released until after his death.

The report says that at the end of their interview, Falchuk left the stage so Dane could speak directly into the camera to deliver his final, unedited public thoughts – specifically addressed to his daughters.

He says in his final interview: “Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled at times, but I tried. Overall we had a blast, didn’t we? I remember all the times we spent at the beach, the two of you, me and my mother – in Santa Monica, Hawaii, Mexico.”

“I see you playing in the ocean for hours now, my water babies. Those days, as the pun intended, were heaven. I want to tell you four things I’ve learned from this disease, and I hope you won’t just listen to me. I hope you’ll hear me.”

“First, live now. Right now. In the present. It’s hard, but that’s what I’ve learned. For years I’ve been mentally wandering and lost in my head for long stretches of time, wallowing and brooding in self-pity, shame, and doubt. I’ve rethought decisions and doubted myself. ‘I shouldn’t have done this. I should never have done that.’ Not anymore. Out of sheer survival I am forced to stay in the present. But I don’t want to be anywhere else. The past contains regrets. The future remains unknown. So you have to live now. The present is all you have. Cherish it. Cherish every moment.”

“Second, fall in love,” he said, adding, “Third, choose your friends wisely.”

He continued, “Finally, fight with every ounce of your being, and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath.”

At the end he says, “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
