Erin Doherty has found a clever way to get her coffee served faster.
Erin revealed that she uses her ‘posh’ accent in which she played Princess Anne The Crown.
The actress, from Crawley, West Sussex, has noticed that the accent conveys authority.
“I remember ordering coffee in Princess Anne’s voice, and it was wildly different, which was interesting,” she said The observer magazine.
“Without being stereotyped, I got my way more quickly. I had my coffee in my hand. Such voices have an authority. And whether we like it or not, you react differently,” she added.
The Adolescence star also shared that people often expect her to speak in her Princess Anne accent and look shocked when she speaks in her real accent.
“You could see it in their faces. Not in a mean way, but you’re like, you’re just hearing my voice now and having a bit of an out-of-body experience,” she said.
Her portrayal of Anne received critical acclaim, leading to many more offers for similar upper-class roles.
“A lot of upper-class characters came my way after I played Anne, and I said no because I didn’t want to be stuck with that,” she told the paper. Sunday Times in 2022.
Erin Doherty recently received critical acclaim and praise for her performance as therapist Briony Adolescence. She won’t get an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
