For Ethan Hawke, a well-known actor with many hit films to his credit, cinema is seemingly his world as he is yet another star to speak out in support of theaters.
“I believe in movies,” he told the Palm Springs Film Festival, adding that creating art reflects a person’s mental and emotional health.
“I believe that human creativity is nature manifesting within us, and that our expressions represent our collective sanity. And we, all of us in this room, are charged with doing our best, with doing the good that we have the power to do.”
As technology, especially AI, disrupts the industry, Ethan is doubling down on his support for human creativity.
“We all know these are turbulent times, but they always are. Our challenges are unique to our times,” the 55-year-old noted.
But Ethan shares with his resilience, this obstacle can be overcome. “Technology has advanced so quickly that it used to seem like progress suddenly feels like a retreat. The truth is hard to hear in the Tower of Babel, but we know it when we see it, when we hear it.”
He also notes that the preservation of art and the freedom to create art must be protected at all costs. “We are not as vulnerable as we fear. And there is so much fun to be had and so much life to be lived.”
When I think about my career in art, I have honestly enjoyed it. I’ve had so much fun and there’s been so much wildness. That’s what I want to preserve: the wild. Protect the wildlife,” concludes Ethan.
