Ethan Hawke reflects on success in Hollywood as he receives his fifth Oscar nomination

25 years after his first Oscar nod for Training day, Ethan Hawke reflected on his Hollywood journey after earning another Academy Award nomination.

Speak with People magazine, Ethan admitted it feels surreal as he prepares for the upcoming awards, where he is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Blue Moon.

He said, “I was the youngest in my category and now I’m the oldest.”

“And it happened so quickly. It feels like Training Day popped into my head six years ago, so it’s hard not to think about a lifetime of doing this. I’m incredibly grateful to be here and still doing this dance because I really enjoy it, but it does make you think about time a lot,” Ethan added.

Additionally, Ethan Hawke also noted how he will now tell his younger self about career milestones, saying, “I had a great time in 2001. I don’t know if I needed much advice.”

“I knew how lucky I was to be there and do this whole event with Denzel. He’s one of the greatest actors who ever lived, and so to be able to ride shotgun – it wasn’t lost on me what a special experience that was,” he added.

The actor added, “I have always been patient. It wasn’t like I was sitting here like a bag of fear. [or] nerves. I loved every second of it and I’m trying to do the same now.”

Ethan Hawke stars as Lorenz Hart Blue moon, which was released in October 2025.
